Evaluation + Diagnosis
At Pacific NW Fertility, we understand that every patient’s situation is unique and the process can seem overwhelming. We are committed to providing you with complete fertility care, and believe that the most common fertility issues can be resolved with clear diagnosis and correct treatment. As a result, treatment plans at Pacific NW Fertility are only developed after complete evaluation and consideration of the patient’s medical and fertility history, diagnosis, age, personal situation and goals.
You may be wondering when to consult a fertility specialist. Here are some common reasons to begin seeking fertility treatment:
Inability to conceive after trying for approximately 12 months at any age. Inability to conceive after trying for 6 months if the female partner is age 35 or over. Recurrent pregnancy loss - the American Society of Reproductive Medicine supports an evaluation for recurrent pregnancy loss after 2 miscarriages. Fertility preservation - freezing eggs or embryos after in vitro fertilization for anyone who is not ready to start their family but wants to have the option in the future. Patients require assistance in reproduction for any reason (third party reproduction such as donor sperm, donor egg, surrogacy) Genetic conditions in families that may be prevented in children with testing of the embryos before conception (cystic fibrosis, spinal muscular atrophy, and hundreds more conditions) If you can relate to any of the above issues, we encourage you to speak with one of our experienced fertility specialists.
You may arrange this in a couple of ways:
There are many signs of infertility that you may already be experiencing, and others that you may not even be aware of without further testing. Routine preliminary testing will be recommended before a diagnosis and treatment plan can be determined. At Pacific NW Fertility, we offer a full panel of testing that can help us identify what may be causing your fertility challenges. You may also choose to have your primary OB/GYN perform these tests ahead of time.
Evaluation with a fertility specialist at Pacific NW Fertility will involve a detailed intake at the first visit in which the patients review their history in detail. Some testing is usually involved in a fertility evaluation and may include anatomy testing with a pelvic ultrasound, confirmation of patient fallopian tubes with a hysterosalpingogram (HSG), blood tests for ovarian reserve (FSH, estradiol, AMH), and a semen analysis. Other prenatal testing may be reviewed and offered. Results from these tests will be reviewed in detail and used by the PNWF fertility specialist to create a personalized plan for next steps in care.

My partner and I went to PNWF because of the positive stance they take on assisting the LGBT community build families. Our primary provider is wonderful. From the get-go, the doctor made us feel comfortable, she took the time to answer all of our questions, and it felt like we were friends talking about fertility treatment, not numbers on a chart. Our doctor, over the course of our treatment, really got to know our personalities too, which was great. I prefer scientific explanations and my partner prefers brief, "give me the short version" explanations. I mention this because the fact that she got to know us in that way really made us feel like she cared about us personally as well as the outcome of our treatment and our family.
